Why We Use Lasers to Treat Gum Disease

Here at Sean P Avera DDS Inc., we believe in using safe, cutting-edge technology. That’s why we use lasers.

And how does our periodontist use lasers, exactly? Dr. Sean P Avera is trained to perform a procedure called scaling and root planing. If your gums have infected the roots of your teeth, you are in need of a proficient method for removing diseased gums and cleaning the area of plaque and calculus so that your gums can regenerate healthily.

Here’s how the treatment typically proceeds: Dr. Sean P Avera will use a special dental laser to access and remove inflamed and diseased gum tissue. Once the teeth roots are partly uncovered, he will meticulously remove the tartar and plaque from around the gumline. The roots will also be smoothed out to remove potential areas of infection. Your gums will then start to heal and regenerate.

Though this procedure can be performed using surgical techniques, we believe lasers are the best tool to use. Why? Well, first of all, they require no anesthetic. They are also incredibly precise. And best of all, they are much less invasive than surgery, resulting in shorter recovery and healing times.
